Pacific Theatre consisted of many major battles were the Allies, mainly the U.S, were pinned against the Japanese, fighting for land and a shift in the war effort in their favor. One very notable battle was the Battle of Midway, which began just six months after the bombing of Pearl Harbor and the U.S's entrance into the war. The battle was initially plan for the Japanese to ambush American troops at the Island of Midway in the North-Central Pacific Ocean. This changed when American Intelligence intercepted and decoded radio messages containing the battle's plans when they were being sent to Japanese troops from Japan's military commander. With this new information American troops were able to surprise the Japanese with a preemptive strike. Although American losses were great, the Japanese lost the strength of their task force. This battle was a turning point in Pacific Theatre for the Allies and left Japan's military with inflicting damage that lasted for the rest of the war. Another major Pacific Theatre battle is the Battle of Iwo Jama. In February 1945, three U.S marine divisions invaded the island of Iwo Jama, located near Japan.
